| EMISSION IMPOSSIBLE - Can Technology Save The Planet? |
2006 IEE Faraday Lecture Climate change is the most important issue we face when looking at our future way of life. The need to address our impact on the global environment has never been more urgent and the technology at the forefront of this battle is some of the most exciting and ground-breaking in the world today. Emission Impossible - Can Technology Save the Planet? takes a fascinating look at how this technology is helping us to tackle climate change and make better use of the earth's precious resources. Using a dynamic mixture of live demonstrations, video and graphics the presentation will examine how the earth regulates itself, how we affect this equilibrium and how alternative sources of energy and efficiency improvements, and the creative science behind them, can help redress the balance. The lecture will explore developments in supercomputer climate modelling as well as pioneering technologies designed to combat the potential impact of climate change such as innovative building designs and exciting new vehicles. Current and future power technologies such as solar, wind, wave, tidal and nuclear are also on the agenda. Emission Impossible - Can Technology Save the Planet? is a vibrant, exciting, interactive lecture aimed at 14-16 year olds but will appeal to all age groups.
